San Francisco’s Chase Center, Magnificent Golden State Wonder

Wonders of the world evoke many emotions from the young and old.

If you are older, you wish that the magnificent monument to time came along earlier when you were younger so you could have enjoyed it.

If you are young you are elated that this state of the art facility is right here, right now so you can enjoy it to the max.

The Chase Center in San Francisco, which is the new home to the NBA elite Golden State Warriors, qualifies as a modern wonder of the world.

Chase Center is an indoor arena in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco.

The Warriors, who have been located in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1962, played their home games at Oracle Arena in Oakland from 1971 to 2019. Chase Center is scheduled to open to the public before the start of the 2019–20 NBA season, with groundbreaking having occurred during the 2016–17 NBA season.

The location for the arena is located at Third St. and 16th St.

The arena will have multiple layers and floors and will have a seating capacity of 18,064 people. It will also include a multi-purpose area that includes a theater configuration with an entrance overlooking a newly built park.

It will contain 580,000 square feet of office and lab space and have 100,000 square feet of retail space. There will also be a public plaza/recreation area designed by landscape architecture firm SWA Group that is 35,000 square feet.

Very chic urban impressive.

The construction will also include a parking facility of about 950 spaces and will be accessible to the public transportation around the area.

People in the know seem to be focusing on different attributes the center has to offer.

A new light rail line is also under construction that will link the arena and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to downtown hotels, convention centers and subway and commuter rail lines that serve the entire Bay Area.

Having lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for years, we are so excited that we could imagine being in a tour limousine and slowly taking in the new sights and connections.

With a $1 billion investment, Chase Center will anchor a district of 11 acres of restaurants, cafés, offices, public plazas and a new five-and-a-half-acre public waterfront park.

The San Jose Mercury news thought big, “You couldn’t miss the Warriors’ massive scoreboard when the team showed off Chase Center to the media, but even that glowing marvel couldn’t obscure some other eye-catching aspects of the $1.4 billion palace.”

The always informative sf.eater.com adds, “Sports fans and concert goers won’t have to suffer through sad nachos to survive the game. It’s still stadium food though, with thousands of pounds of barbecue and pizza dough, courtesy of food-service corporations Bon Appétit Management Company and Levy Restaurants. But there are also some interesting options from smaller local restaurants, including dim sum, lumpia, and tamales.”

Sounds absolutely yummy. We can remember the days when attending professional sports events involved limited options of bland over-priced hot dogs and hamburgers.

True. As huge as it is, taking up about 9,700 square feet, which is six times larger than Oracle, there is so much more to the Chase Center.

Who better to explain it to us than the leadership at Chase Center’s website? They smile, “Whether you’re looking to see a world-championship team, experience a limitless culinary scene, take part in unparalleled retail opportunities or work for booming new businesses, Chase Center represents all the irreplaceable assets that we’ve come to know and love from the area that we call home.

When we first began this project, we had one goal in mind: to create a place that would provide people with unforgettable memories. As we’ve seen Chase Center come to life, we’ve discovered that this place is so much more than just a venue, it’s a beacon for the entire Bay Area community.”

Given the magnificence and awe inspiring beauty of the palace, their passion for the project does indeed show.

We want to hear more about their commitment to the San Francisco community.

They oblige, “Chase Center represents all the best that its neighborhood has to offer: state of the art technology, farm to table dining, first-to-market experiential retail as well as fitness and service amenities. Drawing from influences from locals and regional visitors alike, Chase Center highlights the beauty, ingenuity and innovation of the Bay Area.

Since first announcing plans to move to Mission Bay, we’ve been engaged in a thoughtful community outreach process to better understand the wants and needs of our neighbors. Through years of open, above-board dialogue and public planning, we’ve been able to design and build a community beacon that best reflects our community.

We built authentic, grassroots relationships with the surrounding neighbors, small business owners, and community leaders to empower them to participate in the extensive public arena development process. As a result, the Warriors arena development plans received sweeping approvals before San Francisco legislative bodies and agencies—including a unanimous approval at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in December 2015. In total, over 250 public testimonials in favor of arena development were heard before such elected and appointed bodies.”

One can appreciate how involved it is to make a major community project and investment to be seen around the world in prime time blossom.

There are many partnerships involved.

Have you heard of Thrive City?

Located in the heart of Mission Bay, Thrive City is a dynamic new community village created by the Golden State Warriors and Kaiser Permanente to promote health and wellness in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

The beautiful open-air district offers a year-round resource for families, fans, visitors and neighbors to build community at a variety of festivals, farmers markets, dining experiences, community events and more.

Thrive City was built upon Kaiser Permanente’s and the Golden State Warriors’ shared belief that everyone has the ability to thrive. The two organizations created this unique community gathering space as a resource for the entire Bay Area that also reflects the vibrant spirit of the Mission Bay district.

What a healthy idea.

We look forward to seeing in person all that the Chase Center has to offer.

It is an incredible wonder of the world and as soon as possible, you should take a look close up.

Do it now, so you don’t regret not going later.

You’ll see San Francisco as you’ve never seen her before.
