March 19, 2023,
A person’s name signifies and symbolizes so much.
Amethyst is not a common name in the female submission wrestling industry.
That said, it is a powerful one.
Today Amethyst will meet Ambra.
This should be Amethyst’s match to win given her experience which came to the fore around the 2015-2016 time period. She even wrestled at the great Femwrestle events.
Here is what Femcompetitor Magazine wrote about her in 2016, “In the United Kingdom Amethyst is a beautiful young grappler who loves to dye her hair purple and her wrestling is as silky smooth as wine.
This wine colored beauty has come a long way from her rough childhood and early scrappy wrestling days where she was a cat fighter.
Having said that, many view her as new to the scene.
Fortunately she is beginning to amp things up and have been wrestling more and has quite a bit more wrestling scheduled in Europe during 2016.
She has achieved great results against long time female British submission wrestlers like Kelly at a British wrestling company. In her match against Kelly, she lets us know that she is in control. Our wine colored princess smiles, “A nice leg hook to control my opponent, roll her, flip her and then make her tap with a nice hard scissors hold.”
If you love to wrestle women in a dignified environment, Amethyst seems to be the girl for you.”
Well stated.
As far as Ambra goes, she is a solid wrestler and handily defeated Simone at a previous Submission Room event.
Having not seen the following match, given her substantial experience, even with a layoff, we expect Amethyst to squeak out a tough one because Ambra is very good.
AMETHYST VS AMBRA
The two girls start on their knees and begin with upper hand fighting and torso struggle. Ambra wins the initial confrontation and takes Amethyst down but not for long. Amethyst quickly counters and clasps Ambra in a headlock and takes her down to the mats.
A long struggle ensues.
Amethyst eventually breaks Ambra’s arm blocking fence and in the elongated position is in range for a powerful smother.
Ambra locks arms and re-establishes the fence.
She is countering Amethyst well and as the curly haired beauty goes forward, Ambra, from the bottom, traps her in a form of a Guillotine choke. For good measure she scissors Amethyst’s right leg as well.
This could be trouble.
They struggle.
The struggle is moving them to the edge of the mat.
Break.
Time to come back to the center.
They are ready to engage again.
As they hand struggle, Amethyst pulls Ambra forward for what appears to be a potential floor to sitting body scissors, a move we’re not fond of because if you don’t secure the hold, your opponent is instantly on top of you as Ambra does here.
The method we would suggest is to pull your opponent’s head downward for a possible Guillotine Choke. Even if the hold doesn’t work, at least you are still on top.
Amethyst is now on the bottom.
Ambra has fought for the right to stand over Amethyst who is using her legs to fend the athletic woman off. Ambra is slowing penetrating her defenses and eventually sits on Amethyst’s chest with choices and options.
Ambra is in an ideal position for a smother and goes for it. Amethyst manages to get an arm in to block her closing speed.
Choices and options.
Ambra chooses to slide that smother into a rear naked choke, tightens the squeeze and its game over.
Amethyst taps out.
1-0 for Ambra.
The intense struggles are starting to get to Amethyst. This is the second time she keeps shaking her arms as though they are in pain. This doesn’t bode well for her as the match goes on.
Ambra seems to be fine.
As the match continues, one thing is becoming clear, though we are only one third of the way through the fight, Ambra’s first submission was no fluke. Not only has she previously defeated Simone but a taller Bambi as well.
Perhaps she is better than we thought.
Here she is really starting to take it to the veteran, almost trapping her in a lethal arm bar and then finding herself in the top position again as Amethyst tries to fight her off from below.
There is a break in the action. Ambra hurt her nose but shakes it off. Both girls are breathing heavily as this has been a grueling match. (7:15).
They re-engage with Ambra fighting from a sitting position while fending off Amethyst with her feet. This goes on for some time until they take another break. Amethyst is breathing very heavily.
They try again and the fighting is gaining energy as they even rise to their feet until they take another break.
They struggle some more with more of the same. Ambra almost got in the top position while Amethyst attempted a headlock, from the bottom and they take another break.
Amethyst goes for some water. She appears to be tired.
They begin with upper hand and shoulder area fighting. Ambra managed to push Amethyst backwards but the veteran blocks her off with stellar leg scissoring.
The two Fem Competitors break again.
Once committed, they struggle until they fall off of the mats.
Another break.
Amethyst returns as the aggressor but Ambra manages to keep her at bay with her legs.
The fall off of the mats.
Another break.
As they return, once again Amethyst is the aggressor and Ambra goes on the defensive. As the taller girl continues to surge forward, Ambra traps her in a potential Guillotine choke but Amethyst breaks away.
Amethyst charges again, determined to get to the top position as Ambra is even more determined that she doesn’t. Ambra prevails with her defensive strategy.
Tired, the girls take another break. Ambra backs away.
This time they take an even longer break. Amethyst asks how much time is left.
One minute, two voices share.
Breathing heavily, the two will try one final time.
They struggle near the back corner of the mats, Ambra goes for an ankle and foot joint lock but time is called.
Ambra wins 1-0.
This was a portrait of endurance in tiring circumstances and we appreciate that they both hung in there.
It is good to see Amethyst back on the mats. Welcome to the modern world of fully competitive female submission wrestling. With the inclusion of MMA?
It is a much tougher place.
