Historical Masterpiece, San Francisco’s Grace Vs Czech Republic’s Luzia, Battle Of The Titans

Matchups are often the key to victory.

In the fully competitive female submission wrestling industry, skill matters and size matchups matter as well.

This could play out with clarity today.

By any measure, Czech Republic’s Luzia is one of the greatest stars of all time. She wrestled myriads of DWW Warriors, with matches substantially ending up in the win column. Having said that, when she faced larger female wrestlers, the size variance had a huge impact, namely losing consistently to Petra and Daniela.

Grace, of San Francisco’s Virago fame, was demolished by Daniela, as well.

In today’s matchup, this promises to actually be a comparable physical matchup.

Luzia sails in at 5’ 7” and 135 pounds while Grace is 5’ 6” and 141 pounds.

So, while size is not a factor here, two things will be.

Experience and skill.

Grace, at 28 years old, has the maturity. Her wrestling opportunities in the United States are far more limited than Luzia, who at 21, we suspect, has substantial more experience than Grace, wrestling in the furiously busy DWW compound.

In terms of skill, Grace is trained in the martial arts while few of the DWW girls are. This is where she could have an advantage over Luzia.

San Francisco’s Lonnie defeated Luzia, so that bodes well for Grace that she has a chance.

Time to find out.

LUZIA VS GRACE

The pre-match warmups and festivities were always engaging at DWW.

Now, they are very important warm memories. Almost like a family photo album or family reunion.

Grace, very Zen like, is standing, stretching and mentally appears to be in her own space. Standing behind her is the German, girl next door beauty, in Steffi. Germany’s Susanne walks by wearing black shorts, caressing a water bottle and converses with Steffi.

On the other side of the tent, Luzia the great, is smiling and talking with her crowd. We see Barbara, Eva and Daniela to name a few. We believe we see a rare Gunther sighting as well.

Where did the time go?

It is a wonderful sunny day and a glorious one to be a fully competitive female submission wrestling fan.

Jeff the ref performs the introductions, describing Grace as a guest and Luzia as an “old” DWW favorite. That gets an eyebrow raise from Luzia. Twenty one is now considered old? Good thing the gorgeous blonde has a sense of humor. Grace receives a round of applause, Luzia, with a partisan DWW crowd, garners a loud and boisterous one.

The two girls perform initial hand fighting but Luzia is quick to take Grace down to the mats with a loud thud, firmly squeezed in a headlock. Grace struggles underneath. The San Francisco Bay Area resident tries to capture Luzia by launching a scissor attempt but Luzia quickly responds by bending over, to avoid capture.

The beautiful blonde maintains the top position.

Luzia is fierce and determined to hold on to that headlock from the top. Grace uses her right hand to try and push upward under Luzia’s chin but is warned not to choke.

They have reached a moderate stalemate as Luzia maintains a firm grip on the headlock and keeps her body up top.

This is pre-MMA wrestling, so no hands to the throat. They warn Grace of that more than once.

The two warriors struggle.

Grace is refusing to tap. Now the audience is urging her on.

Grace gets to her knees.

She keeps fighting.

And fighting.

Finally, to a loud round of applause, Grace breaks free.

The two beauties take a small breather and are ready to go at it again.

Grace charges Luzia, vying for that headlock. Luzia keeps moving her head out of the way. Grace is persistent and Luzia, as well. Both know, the key to positioning, is to capture that headlock.

Someone actually blurts out, “Teach her a lesson Grace”.

That’s bold.

The two warriors continue to struggle, eventually ending up in a bear hug. Then Luzia surprising everyone, including Grace, by leaping onto Grace’s waist and applying a body scissor and take down.

Now, Luzia has Grace trapped in a floor to sitting body scissor and squeezes mightily. Her hands are locked behind Grace’s head and neck area.

Grace resists.

A fan urges Grace to lift Luzia up, perhaps to slam her down, and break the hold.

Beating Grace to punch, Luzia trips Grace’s left leg and the gorgeous girl falls to the mats. Luzia maintains her scissor.

Grace manages to stand up, though bent over, but still standing.

“Stack her Grace”, someone screams out. Grace begins to pull Luzia’s head toward her chest, straining the blonde’s neck area.

Luzia pushes back, hard, underneath Grace’s chin.

Grace lifts Luzia up and mildly slams her to the mats. Luzia maintains the scissor. We can literally see how far inside Grace’s sides have been brutally squished.

They struggle.

Grace begins to drive her elbows into Luzia’s thighs. Luzia continues to squish and squeeze, as she grabs at Grace’s wrists. Luzia then changes things up by forcing herself up on Grace and pushing the Virago star backwards.

The audience claps wildly.

Luzia lets go of the scissor but elongates Grace and smashes her upper body down on Grace’s face and applies an overwhelming smother. It is too much.

Grace, her face barely seen underneath Luzia, softly states, “Tap”.

1-0 for Luzia (8:41).

The two stars go back to their camps.

In Grace’s corner, we now see Amy O, who would wrestle Eva, Svetlana and Daniela. Steffi fans Grace with a towel.

In Luzia’s corner, she comfortably sits with a gathering of some the DWW greats, looking confident, fit and beautiful.

ROUND TWO

Grace begins by charging Luzia, trying to surprise for that headlock. Luzia is pushed back but she clasps Grace for the headlock first, as the two stumble off the mats and Jeff yells “Stop!”

Slightly bent over in stalker mode, the two come back to the center and surge towards one another.

They bear hug.

Then Luzia leaps, pulls Grace downward, and applies another scissor. The blonde beauty is once again in control. Grace responds by driving her elbows into Luzia’s knees. We sense, just like before, that will have little effect. Grace now pulls Luzia’s head towards her chest and Luzia responds by pushing her hands underneath Grace’s chin. As the blonde thrusts forward, once again she is on top of Grace. We have seen this movie before.

The Virago star is in trouble.

Luzia elongates her body and begins to smother Grace out, while applying pressure. Grace concedes and taps.

2-0 for Luzia (11:52). Eleven fifty two is the video time. Six minutes and 56 seconds is the actual match time.

Jeff raises Luzia’s right arm, announcing her lead.

Grace and Luzia go back to their respective corners.

As Grace relaxes, Susanne and Steffi, two Deutschland darlings, are having a conversation.

ROUND THREE

The third round begins similar to the previous two.

Grace charges Luzia, pushing the Czech star back towards the corner of the mat ring.

Back to the center.

Grace leaps at Luzia and achieves a headlock. Can she hold on?

No.

Luzia easily breaks it.

Grace is persistent. She captures Luzia with a form of a Full Nelson and wrestles the athletic beauty down to the mats. This is an ideal opportunity to flatten Luzia out, cross body pin, then elongate and go for a smother herself. The audience is cheering her wildly. Can Grace pull it off?

Yes, she now has the cross body pin. The audience encourages the brunette to keep pushing.

Grace is bearing down. If this were a pin count to five, she would have Luzia.

Luzia shocks Grace by launching her legs, capturing Grace’s head and applying a fierce head scissor. The European audience explodes with approval. The Virago legend is in trouble.

She quietly taps out.

3-0 for Luzia.

The official time is 9 minutes and one second.

Luzia has slightly injured her left knee and hobbles to have her hand raised in victory.

Given that we will most likely never see a group like this again, our appreciation continues to deepen for the magic DWW spread to our industry. History has a way of placing this in perspective.
