Newer Female Grapplers, Initiate Matches With A Bear Hug, Build Strong Arms, Shoulders

March 18, 2024,

While we wouldn’t say that the Lady Pros gave it a bad name, but we could say, when applied, it came across as theatrical.

Fair enough?

Yet, the Bear Hug, is used in all industries of competitive female wrestling. Including the respected freestyle world.

In wrestling, a bear hug, also known as a body lock, is a grappling clinch hold and stand-up grappling position where the arms are wrapped around the opponent, either around the opponent's chest, midsection, or thighs, sometimes with one or both of the opponent's arms pinned to the opponent's body. The hands are locked around the opponent and the opponent is held tightly to the chest.

The bear hug is a dominant position, with great control over the opponent, and also allows an easy takedown to the back mount position.

Many have the notion that women wrestlers use the bear hug standing up.

Sometimes that is true.

Having said that, even in a competitive female submission wrestling match, where the female warriors begin the match on their knees, the fight for upper torso control, actually often begins with a bear hug.

Bear hugs are about having strong arms and most important, strong shoulders.

The focus here today, will be using those strong shoulders to bear hug, in the beginning of the match, and take your opponent down to the mat for a pin.

Keep it simple.

Once you get her down, slide on top of her and use those strong shoulders to pin her.

In terms of technique, no one did that better than the Danube Women Wrestlers, the most powerful historic competitive women’s wrestling company, formed in the 1990s and still selling videos to this day.

Before you cast off a pins only match as simply being erotic, please remember that women’s wrestling pins started long ago in the legitimate freestyle world.

Remember those tournaments in Europe during the 1990s where France and Sweden were typically the front runners. And before the female grappling world became more conservative, even at the organized tournaments, they wore bathing suits.

We remember it well.

Those sexy battles were great to watch after purchasing by snail mail.

They wore bathing suits and singlets and their attire was very sexy. It was all legit, with certified referees, schools and the community watching.

Later in our world came the Danube wrestlers.

Now, we will admit that their matches were erotic.

Change that.

Extremely erotic.

Which pins only matches stand out the most? How much time do you have? Because we could go on all day. We will whittle it down for you a little.

Two very erotic pin matches that we loved found the balance between dignity and extreme eroticism since both matches occurred while all four combatants were wearing full bathing suits.

The all-time classic in our opinion is when their legendary curvy, experienced and powerful Petra met equally shapely and feminine Adriena in an indoor match. Two larger shapely raven haired brunettes doing battle.

What could be better? We sure can’t think of anything else and we do have vivid imaginations.

Incredible.

As expected, Petra with all of her years of experience, completely dominated the newer Adriena who was game but out gunned. It was strictly a pins match where Petra would muscle, the shapely girl next door type, Adriena down to the mats and pin her with complete erotic leg struggle by Adriena.

Now, that was erotic.

Still is erotic. Always will be erotic.

Adriena is incredibly feminine and beautiful and Petra, the broad shouldered curvy former Policewoman was happy to dominate her.

A true Danube classic.

Another classic that is a little off the radar is when Hungary’s super star Viktoria met the Czech Republic’s gorgeous blonde Renata B. in the famous DWW gray padded room with the blue mats.

It too was a pins match.

Renata would give her best effort but Viktoria was too experienced, skilled and strong.

Great emphasis on “strong” since ultimately that was what it was going to come down to and it did.

Viktoria relished counting her out to twenty. She smiled during the counting process.

While we often savor the past, we do move up the timeline.

In today’s world, good women’s wrestling pins are about upper body strength.

Yes, since the early days of DWW with Viktoria and Petra in mind, female wrestling pins can be so erotic.

That is why they will never, ever go out of style.

As a newer female grappler, the initial grasp, or Bear Hug, is just the start, but make no mistake about, an extremely important start. That’s why you need strong shoulders so that you don’t always end up as the one on the bottom, kicking your legs and struggling to get out.

In the historic San Francisco female submission wrestling community, one of the beautiful girls who had very powerful shoulders and upper body strength was Kara. We had the honor of working with her on a number of occasions and found her to be very formidable with her incredible upper body strength.

It is one thing to read and hear about, it is another to watch her live and witness her dominate one female submission wrestler after another.

Kara was a real specimen.

Enough talk.

Let’s walk over to the bookstore.
