Classic Movies, Relax At Home Tradition

August 12, 2020,

First dates on romantic comedies are fairly consistent. The pair of new love birds meet at his or her place of residence, have dinner, make small talk and watch a classic movie.

Can’t tell you enough of how the couple to be, love to watch the classics.

We can understand why.

Luv the classics ourselves.

Not only are they entertaining but they take us down memory lane and provide a sense of culture and history as well.

The major player in the classic movie industry is Turner Classic Movies.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is an American movie-oriented pay-TV network operated by Warner Bros. Entertainment, a subsidiary of AT&T's WarnerMedia. Launched in 1994, TCM is headquartered at Turner's Techwood broadcasting campus in the Midtown business district of Atlanta, Georgia.

The channel's programming consists mainly of classic theatrically released feature films from the Turner Entertainment film library – which comprises films from Warner Bros. (covering films released before 1950), Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (covering films released before May 1986), and the North American distribution rights to films from RKO Pictures.

However, TCM also licenses films from other studios, and occasionally shows more recent films.

The channel is available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Latin America, France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, the Nordic countries, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.

In 1986, eight years before the launch of Turner Classic Movies, Ted Turner acquired the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio for $1.5 billion.

That’s right, billion.

For many fans, it was worth the investment as those who love the classics are very passionate about their favorite films.

Having said that, there is good news. We always love variety.

There is another classic movie channel available to enjoy. Lieutenant Columbo would be proud.

The Film Detective is an internet television service and vintage film archive based in Rockport, Massachusetts. Programming for the service consists of classic feature films as well as some classic television programs. Many of the titles shown are public domain and have been restored by The Film Detective.

The company was founded in December 2013 by veteran film archivist and collector Philip Hopkins, previously a co-founder of Marengo Films and a co-founder at Film Chest.

So what can you expect if you decide to indulge?

The service has over 3,000 titles which include classic Westerns, Mystery, Family, Horror, Mystery, Family, Film Noir, Cult Classics, Silent films, Shorts and Documentaries.

This part we found every exciting.

Many are seldom-seen titles. This includes B movie titles.

Sometimes it’s fun to watch a B movie that you’ve never seen from times past. It truly becomes like a cultural trip down memory lane. Sometimes future famous actors are there in their youth.

You might want to hire this detective.

Price is very reasonable.

Time to visit the office. At thefilmdetective.com they explain their vision, “The Film Detective is a one-stop source for Classic Feature Films as well as many Cult Movie Classics and hundreds of hours of Classic TV from the 1950s and 60s — with titles now available in HD!

Our archive includes Classic Westerns, Horror, Mystery, Family, Martial Arts, Film Noir, Religious Programming, Cult Classics, Silents, Classic Cartoons, Shorts, Documentaries, and many rarely and seldom seen Lost Classics.

Today, The Film Detective’s collection of over 3,000 titles are now being remastered for today’s new media. All titles have been professionally transferred from original film elements and are available in ProRes, with many in HD. With original artwork for most titles, our titles are available for worldwide licensing opportunities.”

Sounds wonderful. We look forward to watching it.

They look forward to sharing an announcement with you. It’s a classic.
