July 6, 2021,
It’s not as fun as it used to be.
It’s not what it used to be.
The quality is not as good as it used to be.
You’ve heard those expressions before, right?
Post pandemic times, let’s face it, there is a lot of truth to those expressions.
Still, it is relative based upon your age.
For example, if you are five and going to Disneyland for the first time, there are no used to be feelings. Everything is exciting and brand new.
Even wearing a mask.
It is when we get older, throughout time, people have felt that things, places and experiences are not what they used to be and they are right.
Life is one big transition. Time changes everything. Progress, no matter how you feel about it, must happen and usually that means buildings and lifestyles get torn down.
Currently here in Northern California, there is an apartment building boom and so many smaller buildings and single unit dwellings are being torn down and replaced by large apartment and condo complexes.
It’s interesting how we have walked past the same block for over twenty years and now that the buildings have been replaced, for the life of us, we can’t even remember what was once there.
There are some places where time seems to have stood still.
The Galápagos Islands are part of the Republic of Ecuador, are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the equator in the Pacific Ocean surrounding the center of the Western Hemisphere.
Located 563 miles west of continental Ecuador, the islands are known for their large number of endemic species that were studied by Charles Darwin during the second voyage of HMS Beagle. His observations and collections contributed to the inception of Darwin's theory of evolution by means of natural selection.
The principal language on the islands is Spanish. The islands have a population of slightly over 25,000.
A population of only 25,000. You see, some things are at least close to what they used to be.
Would you like to travel there and see for yourself?
The global travelers at tripadvisor.com extol, “Abundant wildlife above and below the waves draws eco-tourists to Ecuador's Galapagos. Get up close on a stroll or in a Zodiac boat. Snorkel and dive with denizens of the deep, from sea lions to sea turtles at Santiago's Cousin's Rock. Hike by finches, flamingos and iguanas along the Darwin Trail. Admire Sierra Negra Volcano on Isabela.”
Sounds nice. Snorkeling with Sea Lions? Sounds a little scary. Fun scary. But still scary.
While we are on the subject of what’s scary in the Galapagos, what about sharks? We’re not expected to swim with the sharks too, are we?
According to the team at quasarex.com, “Since records of shark accidents were first recorded in 1854 there have been a total of 8 incidents of sharks in the Galapagos Islands and only 3 involving tourists. Two were tuna fishermen chumming the water in the 1950s, and one of them actually fell overboard into a school of fish! Three were surfers.”
Now that economies and regions of commerce are slowing opening up, your dream can come true.
