July 23, 2021,
The United States Tennis Open is right around the corner and for us, it is absolutely the best time of the year.
Watching incredible tennis is only part of the joy.
Fall weather is right around the corner too and here in Nor Cal, it is absolutely the best time of year. There is a feeling of calm and comfortable warmth after a sun baked summer.
Then there is the NFL and College Football.
What combination could be better? We’ve attended both events over the years.
How often do we think about the US Open? Everyday. One day closer. We start crossing days off of the calendar.
One of the players we are looking forward to watching compete is Madison Keys.
Madison Keys is an American professional tennis player who achieved a career-high ranking of No. 7 in the world in October 2016 and has been consistently ranked inside the top 25 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) since early 2015.
Madison has played in one Grand Slam tournament final at the 2017 US Open, competed at the 2016 WTA Finals, and was a semifinalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She has won five WTA tournaments, all at the Premier level.
Her biggest title came at the 2019 Cincinnati Open, a Premier 5 event.
Known for having a fast serve and one of the most powerful forehands in the game, Maddison has used her aggressive playing style to become one of the leaders of the next generation of American tennis alongside Sloane Stephens, CoCo Vandeweghe, and Sofia Kenin.
She debuted in the top 10 of the WTA rankings in 2016, becoming the first American woman to realize this milestone since Serena Williams seventeen years earlier.
When Madison and Sloane faced off against each other in the 2017 US Open final, they snapped a streak of no American women aside from the Williams sisters appearing in a Grand Slam.
Very impressive.
Our friends at Femcompetitor Magazine (femcompetitor.com) loved her so much, they featured her in an article:
American Star Madison Keys, A Girl To Watch All Of The Time
Madison turned pro on her 14th birthday and quickly showed her potential by becoming one of the youngest players to win a WTA Tour level match a few months later.
Big news. She also won a World TeamTennis exhibition set against then world No. 2 Serena Williams later that year.
For the match that will forever be etched in our minds was when she launched an unbelievable comeback after being on the brink of elimination, during the third round, at the 2016 US Open, trailing a teenager 5-1 in the third set.
With true grit, Madison rallied, found her sizzling forehand and regained her confidence to win 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (3).
Who was the teenager?
Naomi Osaka.
That was her singles play.
Now she and the WTA are playing doubles in cooperation with Credit One Bank as they welcome a new state of the art stadium to the tennis world.
You heard it here first.

LAS VEGAS, July 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Credit One Financial, the parent company of Credit One Bank, one of the fastest-growing credit card providers in the United States, today announced a multiyear naming rights sponsorship with Charleston Tennis, LLC, which includes title partner rights at the newly named Credit One Stadium located at the LTP Daniel Island tennis center in Charleston, South Carolina. As part of the new sponsorship, Credit One Bank will be the title sponsor of the annual WTA 500 tennis tournament, to be held April 2-10, 2022 at Credit One Stadium.
American professional tennis player Madison Keys, WTA CEO Steve Simon and Charleston City Council Members Carol Jackson and Marie Del Cioppo attended the announcement today to celebrate Credit One's sponsorship and investment in the greater Charleston region. Charleston Tennis, LLC, and Credit One also unveiled a design for the stadium's marquee signage, a symbolic start of a new chapter for the 20-year-old venue that is currently undergoing extensive renovations to enhance the stadium experience.
"We're proud to be working with Charleston Tennis, LLC, and the City of Charleston to build on the great history of this tournament and give the passionate fan base in the area and women's tennis players from around the world a great experience at a state-of-the-art venue," said John Coombe, senior vice president of marketing at Credit One Bank. "We want to grow the Credit One Bank brand name throughout the region while continuing to invest in entertainment and community programs important to our customers and fans."
Credit One first partnered with Charleston Tennis, LLC, in June of 2020 for the Credit One Bank Invitational, which was the first large-scale tennis event to be held after the sport went on pause during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament featured 16 players, received more than 40 hours of live coverage on Tennis Channel, and helped raise critical funds for the Medical University of South Carolina's frontline healthcare workers.
Credit One Stadium, which is managed by Charleston Tennis, LLC, under a lease from the City of Charleston, is currently undergoing renovations that will include:
- Expanded spectator seating from 7,500 to 11,000 seats
- 16 fully air-conditioned permanent suites
- All-new concessions and additional restrooms
- The 75,000-square-foot Stage House, featuring new locker rooms, a gym, training facilities, media and production space, and a VIP rooftop restaurant and outdoor bar
Upgrades are expected to be complete and on display during the WTA 500 tournament in April. The event is the largest women's-only tennis tournament hosted in North America and is celebrating its 50th year in 2022 at Credit One Stadium. Annually, the event attracts more than 90,000 attendees and more than 100 of the top singles and doubles tennis players in the world.
