Traditional Japanese Dance Mesmerizes At FCI San Francisco 2021 Event

October 30, 2021,

You don’t have to completely understand something, especially that which emanates from another land, to know that you love it.

Are mesmerized by it.

Find it very soothing.

We have traveled to Japan, so for us, it was like coming home.

During the Female Competition International’s (FCI) October 2, 2021 event, show cased at the majestic San Francisco Airport Hyatt hotel, Japanese dance both mesmerized and captivated the attentive audience.

One of our associates explains that as he sat watching the performance, he knew he was witnessing something very special. The dancer was magical and the music hypnotic.

FCI’s experiment or innovation, to combine female sports and entertainment under one flag, more and more, is feeling like a fantastic idea.

Ajna was the performing artist.

Ajna currently resides in San Francisco California. Recently she's been focused on the many forms of Japanese dance, and is offering workshops and performances In the bay area and abroad.”

Very impressive. We were amazed as well. One song in particular, we keep listening to over and over as we enjoyed her seemingly effortless movements.

Japanese traditional dance describes a number of Japanese dance styles with a long history and prescribed method of performance. Some of the oldest forms of traditional Japanese dance may be among those transmitted through the kagura tradition, or folk dances relating to food producing activities such as planting rice (dengaku) and fishing, including rain dances.

Mai and Odori are the two main groups of Japanese dances, and the term buyō (舞踊) was coined in modern times as a general term for dance, by combining mai (舞) (which can also be pronounced bu) and odori (踊) (which can also be pronounced ).

Mai is a more reserved genre of dance that often has circling movements, and dances of the Noh theatre are of this tradition.

A variation of the Mai style of Japanese dance is the Kyomai or Kyoto-style dance. Kyomai developed in the 17th century Tokugawa cultural period. It is heavily influenced by the elegance and sophistication of the manners often associated with the Imperial Court in Kyoto.

Elegant and sophisticated indeed. We can attest to that.

Odori has more vigorous stepping movements and is more energetic, and dances of the kabuki theater belong to this category.

We sense we are starting to understand, but we would like to understand more. Watching Ajna’s silky smooth rendition at the FCI 2021 Event was just the beginning.

A visiting female writer, with over 2,200 articles from many genres under her kimono, will provide us with more insight into the incredible art form of Tradition Japanese Dance.
