November 1, 2021,
Back in the day, it was the “IT” car. Still is today.
Served many purposes. Was great for teens or a second car for many families.
We’ve always loved the Honda Civic.
Back in the 1970s when it first appeared, you knew you were looking at something special. Once inside, the ride was clean and crisp with a lot of pep.
True story, a friend loved them so much that he bought a matching pair for both he and his wife.
The seating was comfortable and the window views were expansive.
At night, in some ways, with a soft stereo sound going, it was like gliding in a stealth space ship.
It inspired endless imagination.
The Honda Civic is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1972.
Since 2000, the Civic has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupies the subcompact class. As of 2021, the Civic is positioned between the Honda Fit and Honda Accord in Honda's global car line-up.
The first generation Civic was introduced in July 1972 as a two-door model, followed by a three-door hatchback that September.
Initially gaining a reputation for being fuel-efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly, later iterations have become known for performance and sportiness, especially the Civic Type R, Civic VTi, Civic GTi and Civic SiR/Si.
We’ve driven the Civic many times and we agree.
By 2020, the Civic is the sixth best-selling automobile in the world of all time, with over 18 million units sold since 1972.
Despite being a modest car, the Civic is popular as a platform for modification and customization by the enthusiast community.
Nice historical accounting. What is going on with the newer generations of Civics today?
As shared at caranddriver.com, “Honda’s 11th-generation Civic gains another version with the arrival of the performance-oriented Civic Si. Debuting solely in sedan form, the 2022 Civic Si once again features a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission. It's now wrapped in a handsome-looking package that's slightly lower, longer, and wider than before.”
Great update.
Someone else is enthusiastic about the Civic. The praise keeps pouring in. On October 19, 2021, the team at cnet.com posted, “The all-new 2022 Honda Civic Si debuted today, blending the improvements of the 11th-generation Civic sedan with a touch of extra performance spice. The new model improves over the previous generation with upgrades and refinements aimed at making the sports sedan more fun and engaging to drive.”
We are engaged.
As you might guess, Honda would like to get a word in too.
Excited at honda.com, “Honda believes in The Power of Dreams. But believing isn’t enough. As Soichiro Honda said: “Action without philosophy is a lethal weapon; philosophy without action is worthless.”
That was deep. And makes a lot sense.
They continue, “At Honda, The Power of Dreams drives us to create intelligent products that enhance mobility and increase the joy in people’s lives.
We continue to draw inspiration from the visionary ideas of our namesake, Soichiro Honda. He saw incredible power in the freedom of mobility and used his imagination to change the world. It is this mindset that guides us to help move people forward and protect the future we all share.”
The current versions of the Civic do inspire.
Their designs speak to that. They continue, “Exterior & Interior Redesigned Inside and Out The all-new Civic Hatchback blends style and substance with a sporty design language, expansive interior views and ample cargo space.”
That is why they are garnering worldwide attention and awards.
