November 25, 2021,
Hey, Charli XCX? XOXO.
How many times do we have to dance and listen to your song Boom Clap to confirm that we have fallen madly in love with you? Truly, deeply, madly.
Especially at night. With the city skyline as a companion, by our side.
While we are driving.
Whether it is dance pop, electro pop, punk pop or alternative pop, when Charli sings it, you really pop.
Your fingers. A lot.
She makes people feel so alive, at night, it is no wonder she will have the honor of being a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, before the year ends.
Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known professionally as Charli XCX, is an English singer and songwriter.
Born in Cambridge and raised in Start Hill, Essex, she began posting songs on Myspace in 2008, which led to her discovery by a promoter who invited her to perform at warehouse raves.
In 2010, she signed a recording contract with Asylum Records, releasing a series of singles and mixtapes throughout 2011 and 2012. Laying the foundation for a smash hit career.
A career that continues to soar. Towards the stars.
Speaking of stars, if her melody Boom Clap sounds familiar, it was featured in the motion picture, The Fault In our Stars.
She is a risk taker. Was at a very young age. At 14, she convinced her parents to grant her a loan to record her first album. Way to go. Charli XCX opened for Katy Perry on the European leg of her Prismatic World Tour in early 2015.
Let’s Boom Clap again. Especially after looking at her Twitter where 8.5 million followers love her. We feel them clapping too.
There she provides us with some vibrant news.
Her new album Crash is coming March 18, 2022. We’re certain sales are going to boom.
We are wildly clapping again.
Let’s keep going because Charli sure can. We’re trying to keep up.
In 2012, Charli XCX rose to prominence with the Icona Pop collaboration "I Love It", which became an international success, reaching top 10 in North America and Europe.
She loves to collaborate with other successful artists.
In 2014, she contributed the hook and bridge to "Fancy" by rapper Iggy Azalea, which finished the year as one of the best-selling singles worldwide and was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
The same year, Charli XCX released our favorite “Boom Clap", which became her first solo top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100. Her second studio album, the punk-influenced Sucker, was released at the end of the year, and spawned the successful singles "Break the Rules" and "Doing It".
In 2015, Charli XCX began working alongside producers associated with the UK collective PC Music, developing a more experimental sound and image.
While working on her third album, she released the Vroom Vroom EP (2016) and the mixtapes Number 1 Angel and Pop 2 (both 2017), as well as a series of singles including the BPI-certified "After the Afterparty", "Boys", and "1999".
Her third and fourth studio albums, Charli (2019) and How I'm Feeling Now (2020), received widespread acclaim; the latter was created within a span of six weeks during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
In 2021, Charli XCX co-wrote and provided vocals on the Jax Jones and Joel Corry single "Out Out".
Fascinating.
One of her brilliant collaborations came with the pulsating group Iconic Pop.
"I Love It" is a song by Swedish duo Icona Pop featuring vocals from British recording artist and our star Charli XCX.
It was released as a single in May 2012 as a digital download in Sweden, where it peaked at number two on the singles chart. The song was added to their debut studio album, Icona Pop, as well as their EP Iconic and their debut international album, This Is... Icona Pop.
The song received positive reviews from music critics, and publications Rolling Stone and Pitchfork included it on their year-end lists for 2012.
The song went on to become Icona Pop and Charli XCX's first US hit, peaking at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, denoting over 2 million copies sold in the United States.
In June 2013, over a year after it was released elsewhere, the song charted at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. It has gone on to sell 4.3 million certified downloads.
Brilliant.
It takes a village to raise a super star like Charli, and yes we have heard of the famous Cambridge University but we want a closer look at her hometown.
Cambridge is a university city and the county town of Cambridgeshire, England, on the River Cam approximately 55 miles north of London.
At the United Kingdom Census 2011, the population of the Cambridge built-up area (which is larger than the remit of Cambridge City Council) was 158,434 including 29,327 students.
About the University.
The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209.
The buildings of the university include King's College Chapel, Cavendish Laboratory, and the Cambridge University Library, one of the largest legal deposit libraries in the world.
Cambridge is at the heart of the high-technology Silicon Fen with industries such as software and bioscience and many start-up companies born out of the university.
Over 40 per cent of the workforce have a higher education qualification, more than twice the national average.
No wonder Charli is so neon bright. Very smart too.
The Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of the largest biomedical research clusters in the world includes the headquarters of AstraZeneca, a hotel, and the relocated Royal Papworth Hospital.
The global nomads at Trip Advisor add, “Cambridge might be best known for its university, home to some of the world’s greatest minds (Milton, Darwin, Hawking, etc.). But there’s a vibrant theater and arts scene here as well, and you’ll find fantastic contemporary restaurants mixed in with traditional pubs. Climb the tower of Great St. Mary’s Church for sweeping views of the city.”
Magnificent. Would love to visit.
Charli? Based upon all of that higher learning, not only will we clap, we’ll listen more closely.
To what you have to say, and sing.
Once we heard one of Charli’s songs, we had to raid her whole inventory.
We are still dancing to them. All of them.
In between clapping.
