September 2, 2022,
We’ve heard of heard her.
We’ve seen a little bit of her.
We have never written a full match review on Ivy, from Brazil. Loaded with feminine muscle, Ivy is a blue belt in BJJ.
Her opponent, Kat Max of Ireland is a favorite of ours and we have written about her before. She is a solid wrestler but struggles against those more skilled in MMA and those considered one of the elite.
Here she may a chance against Ivy, who actually has been wrestling for a while, but doesn’t appear to have an extensive resume. She has mostly plied her trade in London at Pippa’s Submission Wrestling Room, as she will here today.
KAT MAX VS IVY
Pippa stands and provides a brief introduction and the two girls go to their knees and are ready for battle.
The two begin by wrapping their hands behind the necks of one another, with little movement, until Ivy pushes Kat backwards and lands on top of her.
Kat kicks her muscular legs to try and escape but Ivy is all over her and eventually mounts her and sits upon her chest.
Ivy is comfortably in control, leans forward to escape any leg under hook and then cleverly rolls Kat into a side body scissors. Kat squirms for a bit but there is no escape and the Irish warrior soon taps out.
1-0 for Ivy (2:02).
Ivy has competed on other wrestling videos, sometimes against the elite. There, she is expected to lose so, in our opinion, that won’t make a name for her nor assess where she is at skill wise.
A match against the steady Kat Max should.
Be a good indicator anyway.
The next round shows the two beauties fighting at the shoulders and Ivy manages to maneuver her way to the top. Falling forward, she is in a position to smother Kat who manages to trap and lock Ivy’s right legs to help prevent full throttle movement.
For some time the action is stagnate with the two rolling around but at one point Kat is one top and in a strong position. Ironically it is now Ivy who uses her strong legs to trap Kat’s right leg to prevent full throttle.
Good for Kat, but what is she going to do with this?
They continue to struggle as Kat has both of Ivy’s wrists pinned to the mats.
Finally Kat breaks Ivy’s leg hold and now mounts the raven haired brunette.
The Irish luminary now applies a fierce grapevine.
Well done. Pressed with little movement, Ivy taps out.
1-1 (6:50).
At this point, if the match continues to go this way, we have overestimated Ivy.
Our fault.
Given the description of her MMA background and wrestling skills, we thought she had a chance against Kat.
Now, not so much. We’ll see.
The next round begins with Ivy attempting to grab Kat’s wrists as she circles the mats from the floor. A little unorthodox but eventually she gains control.
Interestingly she has various submitting options but curiously she is not taking them.
She does maintain top control. Kat struggles to prevent closing moves but Ivy is continuing to let one finishing opportunity slip away.
Here, she has a possible Guillotine Choke, as she is in the top position, but doesn’t pursue it. Then she maneuvers into a cross body pin, holds on top but rolls out of it herself and almost let’s Kat escape. Then she begins to talk to Kat (always a bad fully competitive sign) as she is on top with Kat’s wrists pinned down but doesn’t appear to be making progress towards a submission.
It is starting to appear like a sparring session.
Ivy is now starting to lose control.
Kat grabs Ivy’s wrists, from the floor and thinks about a Triangle Choke but lets it go.
She continues to hold Ivy’s wrists.
Kat now encases Ivy in a sitting body scissors and Ivy smiles and banters with her. If this were a professional or NCAA football game, we would describe this as a lull. Nothing is really happening so it would be time to throw in some color, as they say, or a few jokes or riddles.
Why did the Sheep Herder throw his watch off the cliff?
Drum roll.
Because he wanted to see time fly.
How about this one.
How does the ocean say hi? It waves.
One more.
What has ears but cannot hear? A cornfield.
Oh, there is a wrestling match going on.
We’ve been away, but Kat and Ivy are in the same position.
Ivy now tickles Kat.
Cute.
She replies that anything helps.
Okay. That’s one way of looking at it.
Kat keeps Ivy trapped in the floor to kneeling body scissors position. It appears to be a breakable hold but Ivy is almost motionless.
This goes on for easily a minute before Kat pulls Ivy’s head forward and squeezes harder. Ivy resists for a moment, complains about her back and then taps out.
Kat leads 2-1. (13:25).
As the two girls begin to engage again, even Pippa appears to be a little bored. She asks the girls if that was a submission to Kat.
Now it’s our turn to giggle.
How do you miss a body scissor submission and become confused as to who submitted? Maybe you are distracted. Maybe.
Ivy is back on top.
She has a chance for a smother.
Lets it go.
She then has a chance for a cross body pin.
Lets it go.
She then has an arm bar.
Lets it go.
They grapple around for a minute, Ivy giggling and the match comes to an end.
They hug.
Pippa comes between them, raises Kat’s hand and declares her the winner at 2-1.
We like Ivy. She is a very gregarious woman. That is wonderful at cocktail parties and PTA meetings.
Backyard BBQ’s too.
But on the fully competitive wrestling mats?
Well, fully competitive wrestling should be fun too, right?
