Bellator Female MMA Star Liz Carmouche, Successfully Around The Block

December 10, 2022,

Fighting with different MMA organizations, Liz Carmouche has been around the block and if you step into the cage with her, she can skillfully knock your block off.

She has been doing that very effectively lately.

The final Bellator event of 2022 took place Friday with Bellator 289.

The main card airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.

As reported on December 6, 2022 mmajunkie.usatoday.com, “The co-headliner, meanwhile, will see Liz Carmouche (17-7 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) attempt to make her first women’s flyweight title defense when she runs it back with Juliana Velasquez (12-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA), whom she beat for the title in controversial fashion earlier this year.”

Fans love controversy.

Liz Carmouche is an American mixed martial arts fighter currently signed to Bellator MMA, where she is the current Bellator Women's Flyweight World Champion.

Ms. Carmouche competed for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the Women's Flyweight and Women's Bantamweight divisions.

At the time of her UFC departure, she was an impressive #4 in the UFC women's flyweight rankings.

Now for a little bit of history.

Liz competed in the first ever women's MMA match in the UFC when she competed against Ronda Rousey for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship at UFC 157.

A two-time title challenger, Liz also challenged for the UFC Women's Flyweight Championship in August 2019 against Valentina Shevchenko.

See what we mean? She has been around the block. Early.

Interesting back story. Liz was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and grew up on Okinawa, Japan.

Liz started her professional career in 2010, winning her first three fights via knockout or submission.

There are more stops on the block.

On August 13, 2010, she made her Strikeforce debut at Strikeforce Challengers 10 in a reserve bout for their one-night Women's Welterweight tournament.

She defeated Colleen Schneider via unanimous decision after two rounds.

Our star returned to the promotion at Strikeforce Challengers 12 on November 19, 2010, where she defeated Jan Finney via TKO in the third round.

Here is another stop.

Liz faced Ashleigh Curry at Invicta Fighting Championships 1 on April 28, 2012. She won the fight via TKO in the first round.

She then faced faced Kaitlin Young at Invicta Fighting Championships 2 on July 28, 2012. She won the fight via submission due to a rear-naked choke in the second round.

Liz has fought for multiple MMA organizations with incredible success.

Now on to the big girls. Drum roll.

It was announced at the UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz pre-fight press conference by UFC President Dana White that former Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey would be the very first UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion.

It was confirmed by White that Liz would be challenging Rousey for the Women's Bantamweight title at UFC 157.

Here is what happened.

In the early part of the first round, Liz locked in a standing rear-naked choke and face crank combination on Rousey.

However, as she often does, Rousey escaped and eventually finished the fight by arm bar with 11 seconds left in the first round.

Still, great effort for Liz.

Liz continued to fight some of the big names, including Miesha Tate.

Perhaps you can see why we are so excited about Liz and follow her career, now with Bellator.

Hopefully you will too.

Now for some more Bellator news. They have a new partnership.
