Important Elements Of The Floor To Sitting, Kneeling, Standing Body Scissors

May 1, 2023

We’ll be up front and say it is not our favorite move.

Or position.

The floor to standing, kneeling or sitting body scissors is used often, but in our video reviews, rarely gains a submission.

First of all, you as a newer female wrestler are lying flat on your back as you try and secure it.

The focus is often the scissor itself but in reality it is where you grab your opponent’s arms, as you are pulling them towards you, is where the real bone of contention or battle takes place.

What we have seen more effective is if you use both of your arms to try and secure an arm bar and scissor as opposed to grabbing both of your opponent’s arms.

Always remember, if your opponent breaks away from a sitting body scissor, all they have to do is move forward and they will be in a great position to submit you with a smother.

Let’s focus on wrist grabbing or gaining your own wrist strength first.

We like this video on YouTube and think it can be helpful to you in your wrist strengthening quest.

Here is another one that works very well too.

Loved that.

As you strengthen your body, the duo at supersisterfitness.com can be very helpful. Why don’t we meet them?

They educate, “Hey there! We’re Liz & Sara, the founders of this community. As your sister squad, our goal is to supercharge your mind, body & spirit so you can live the life of your dreams! This is a transformational lifestyle community full of women just like you who are ready to shift their lives by shifting their health and relationship to their bodies.

We can’t wait to help you achieve your goals, and we’re here for you every step of the way.”

Sounds enticing. We loved their website. You might want to check them out.

Now that you are participating in that aspect of your wrist strengthening, let’s focus on arm strength.

Once you trap them in an arm bar, you will try and hang on for dear life as they attempt to pull away. In that tug of war, stronger arms will help you win that challenge.

Time to walk to the book store.

Let’s look at one more.

Strength and excitement. A great combination.

Which brings us back to our original subject.

We are not saying that you shouldn’t apply a body scissor from your back position but we think, more than not, it is not a good decision.

Typically the weaker wrestler is applying it because she doesn’t feel she has the skillsets to fight it out on her knees, struggling to get upper body control, with that dreaded but incredibly effective headlock.

Once you secure a tight headlock and you fall on top of your opponent, it creates more effective options for you including maneuvering them into an upper choke and body scissor combination with an elongated body. From our video research, those are far more effective.

Here, we’ve just spoke about half of the floor to body scissors attack. The other important element to this equation is to strengthen your legs,

Mightily.

In particular your thighs.

Let’s walk to another bookstore.

Because your opponent most likely will.
