November 6, 2023,
They make them up as they go.
Or at least sometimes it appears that way.
Women’s wrestling Video Producer’s Rules.
They are made to be broken, except in fully competitive female submission wrestling. Once the rules are laid down, you have to abide by them. Even if they are incredibly limiting.
For example, when Kim of Hungary met Xena of Belgium, only headlocks and body pin counts to ten would be allowed.
Okay. So no smothers, arm bars, body scissors, chokes of any kind or joint locks are allowed. Talk about operating with the cupboard bare.
When Dolly met Julie Sylvie (Harry met Sally), they made a unique movie, without all of the groaning at a restaurant.
Besides the lack of groaning, no choking, arm locks, leg locks nor arm bars allowed.
Look, when the rules get too restrictive, there are two things that cannot be taken away.
Strength and Intestinal Fortitude.
With the latter, let’s keep it simple and call it being mentally tough.
You will need both because the rules are so restrictive, that whatever submission holds are left, you will need to be strong and mentally tough to work through the limitations.
A classic match that demonstrated this is Xena vs Kim.
Here is what the FCI writer stated about the match, “Despite the extreme match rule limitations, this was a great battle of intestinal fortitude. We are not surprised that Xena won. Even though this match only allowed headlocks and pins, who has far more experience in that area? Xena or Kim? It was Xena’s determination that defeated Kim today. Completely. Not her skill level. As far as we know, she has less than five matches under her belt. Kim, easily over thirty.”
Okay, we get the point. It was Xena’s mental toughness that won out over skill.
As a female grappler, what will help you get physically stronger?
Work the upper body and arms. It is that simple.

There you have it.
As a female grappler, the person showing up to the event, paying for the match, makes up the rules.
That’s the way it goes.
Yes, sometimes the elevator doesn’t go to the top floor, and, or, the light is on, but nobody’s home; he is one can shy of a six pack, he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, he’s not the brightest light bulb in the pack, in pickup of any kind, chicks or basketball, he is the last one picked, and possibly, he is Neapolitan ice cream, minus the three flavors.
Having said all of that, as long as he has the money, you have to go by his rules.
As restrictive as they may be, your physical strength and mental toughness will help you come out victorious, and we sense, very satisfied, despite the obstacles.
