Newer Female Grapplers, To Have her Back, Learn Basic Speed And Agility Drills

September 10, 2024,

She’s got your back.

Normally you should feel good about that, but not here.

Typically when she’s got your back, in family, business and sports, that is something to breathe a sigh of relief about. Feel reassured. Appreciative even.

But not in fully competitive female submission wrestling.

If she has got your back, you are in big trouble.

When a female submission wrestler has your back, it opens up the door for many submission options including a rear naked choke, behind the back scissors among other devastating holds.

That is why you don’t give up your back.

Now let’s turn the tables. This is why you should try and get behind your opponent. It absolutely places you in the driver’s seat. Typically your match will begin with upper hand fighting, shoulder jousting and behind the neck pulldown attempts.

What can get you behind her back?

The ideal way is her own mistakes.

We can’t say enough about how we’ve seen inexperienced female submission wrestlers try and submarine their opponents. Just remember, once she lowers her head, you have so many over the top options including a powerful Guillotine Choke. Pulling her further downward and scrambling behind her is another effective option.

Lower your head? Don’t do it.

If your opponent doesn’t trap you in one move, they’ll quickly circle around you and encase you in another.

Female submission wrestlers who have put the time in on agility drills have the advantage when it comes to slipping behind your back for a rear naked choke or as soon as you bend forward, circling around you, landing on top and crunching you out in a Guillotine choke.

That requires basic agility movements.

Agility or nimbleness is an ability to change the body's position quickly and requires the integration of isolated movement skills using a combination of balance, coordination, speed, reflexes, strength, and endurance.

In sports, agility is often defined in terms of an individual sport, due to it being an integration of many components each used differently which is specific to all sorts of different sports.

To be more competitive, have you thought about incorporating agility drills in your workouts?

A basic definition.

Agility drills are used in the aim of improving sports agility, which is the ability to change direction and accelerate while in motion.

The ability to change direction while in motion is very important in many sports, especially in female grappling. This comes into play when your opponent has made a mistake, falling backwards, bending over or giving up their back. If you have been working on your agility drills, you can take advantage of the opportunity with quick movement.

Drills that entail jumping with turns in the air are usually applicable as well.

The drills that use ladders, hurdles and cones are used extensively in many different sports. For the drill to be successful in relation to improving sports performance on the field or court, it must include cutting actions.

Learning how to do the cutting action is imperative. It involves both technical and physical components that are learned skills. These skills must be mastered in order to get maximum benefit in the agility drill.

Those are the basics.

Sports can cross over and agility drills for football makes perfect sense here.

Let’s walk over to the bookstore.

Developing Agility and Quickness (NSCA Sport Performance) Kindle Edition

By NSCA -National Strength & Conditioning Association (Author), Jay Dawes (Author, Editor), & 1 more Format: Kindle Edition

“The ball handler who fakes and then drives past a defender for an easy score. A pass rusher who leaves a would-be blocker in his wake on the way to sacking the quarterback. A setter who manages to maneuver both body and ball in the blink of an eye to make the perfect pass for the kill and match-winning point. These are all reasons agility and quickness are such prized physical attributes in modern sport.

Efforts to become markedly quicker or more agile, however, aren’t always successful. Genetic limitations, technical deficiencies, and inferior training activities are among the major obstacles.

Developing Agility and Quickness helps athletes blow past those barriers thanks to the top sport conditioning authority in the world, the National Strength and Conditioning Association. NSCA hand-picked its top experts to present the best training advice, drills, and programs for optimizing athletes’ linear and lateral movements. Make Developing Agility and Quickness a key part of your conditioning program, and get a step ahead of the competition.”

These ideas and practices could be extremely helpful in your movements to get behind your opponent.

Just as you would get Jiu-Jitsu and Martial arts training to help in your wrestling, there are individuals and organizations that help you enhance your speed and agility skills.
